Disaster Response
Central Region Citizens Corp Council

The Columbus Area United Way has partnered with Platte County Emergency Management, Prairie Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, and East Central District Health Department in the Central Region Citizens Corp Council. The Citizens Corp Council provides training to disaster response volunteers and holds events throughout the year to offer emergency preparedness information to the community. The Central Region Citizens Corp has also developed a mobile Disaster Volunteer Reception Center to handle volunteer management in the event of a community disaster. Other Citizen Corp projects include the Columbus Area COAD and a Special Needs Registry project.
Columbus Area COAD

The Columbus Area COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) is an umbrella organization under which businesses and organizations can come together to form organized disaster response. Examples of COAD members include non profits, civic clubs, city and county government, schools, churches and businesses with an interest in disaster response. COAD's provide a tracking system of what each organization would contribute during a disaster to avoid duplication and highlight areas where there may be voids in local preparedness and response. A resource manual with each members contact information and disaster service will be compiled and made available to law enforcement, fire services, emergency management, disaster service agencies, and all COAD members.
