GLAM FOR GOOD WITH COLUMBUS AREA UNITED WAY AND WOMEN UNITED
AND GIVE BACK TO LOCAL YOUTH
Columbus, Nebraska – Get ready for a girls’ night out that gives back. Women United, an affinity group under Columbus Area United Way, is planning a Glam for Good event with proceeds going to the Student Health program and mental health vouchers. This event will take place on October 20th from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM at the Columbus Innovation Center at 2311 14th Street in Columbus.
Women United was launched in 2024, where women of all ages were invited to participate in open-table discussions to identify the challenges that women in our community face. Women United has since hosted multiple community gatherings, focusing on strengthening support networks for local women. Women United Steering Committee Member, Jo Suess, said, “The Women United Steering Committee created a survey to help determine what to focus on to have an immediate impact on the communities we serve. Results from the survey determined that we wanted our fundraising efforts to support the Student Health Program and Youth Mental Health Vouchers.”
Women United Steering Committee Member, Miki Naylor, said, “One of the things I value most about the Women United events is the opportunity to sit at the table with women from different generations and backgrounds, listen to one another’s experiences, and learn from presenters on issues that matter. Every event not only strengths our community connections but also helps fund resources that support the health and mental well-being of local youth.”
With the growing cost of healthcare and the need for mental health supports, both programs are focused on the well-being of our local youth. Student Health helps K-12 students who lack insurance or financial meals to access essential dental, medical, and vision care. Youth Mental Health Vouchers support families by connecting youth to mental health services. Columbus Area United Way works with nurses and counselors in the four-county service area of Platte, Colfax, Nance, and Boone counties to identify students with these needs. Suess adds, “The impact these programs have on the children they serve is life changing. When a child is vulnerable, these programs will help them reach a point of stability; the first step to become successful in school and in life.”
Those who attend can come dressed in their glitz and glam or come as they are. They are also encouraged to decorate their table to be eligible for a prize, but it is not required. The one thing that everybody will have in common is having a great time!
An individual ticket is $50, or you can purchase a table of eight for $400. If you are a business, you can sponsor a table for $500. Registration is required and can be completed at columbusunitedway.com/glam. If you have questions, you can contact Nicolette Coble at ncoble@columbusunitedway.com or 402-564-5661.
This is a perfect opportunity to dress up and get your friends together. Enjoy a ladies’ night and give back to students in the local community who need support. Glam for Good!
