Columbus Area United Way Announces Executive Director Transition


Board Commits to Seamless Leadership Continuity as Hope Freshour Steps Down in February


COLUMBUS, NEBRASKA – The Columbus Area United Way Board of Directors announces that Executive Director Hope Freshour has submitted her resignation, effective February 2026. The Board expresses its deep appreciation for Freshour's outstanding leadership and dedication during her tenure.


"Hope has been an exceptional leader who has guided our organization through a period of remarkable growth and impact," said Chip Kay, Chair of the Columbus Area United Way Board of Directors. "Under her direction, we have strengthened our community partnerships, expanded our programs, and significantly increased our ability to address critical needs in our area."


During Freshour's tenure as Executive Director, the Columbus Area United Way has experienced substantial organizational growth, including expanded fundraising capacity, enhanced program delivery, and strengthened relationships with local nonprofits, businesses, and community stakeholders. Her strategic vision has positioned the organization for continued success in addressing the most pressing challenges facing the Columbus area.


"It has been an honor to serve this incredible community and work alongside such dedicated volunteers, donors, and partner organizations," said Freshour. "The Columbus Area United Way is in a strong position to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors, and I'm confident in the organization's bright future."


The Board of Directors has initiated a comprehensive search process to identify Freshour's successor and is committed to ensuring a smooth transition of leadership. The organization plans to have the new Executive Director in place before Freshour's departure in February, ensuring continuity of operations and programs that serve the community.

The organization's committed staff, volunteers, and board members will ensure that the vital work of supporting local families and addressing community needs continues seamlessly.
