COLUMBUS AREA UNITED WAY RECEIVES GRANT FROM
ADM CARES TO SUPPORT FOOD ACCESS
Columbus, Nebraska – Did you know that 1 in 7 Nebraskans currently face food insecurity? The Columbus Area United Way recently received a grant for $100,000 from ADM Cares. ADM Cares helps drive impactful change where it matters most and believes in partnering with local organizations to advance food security, sustainability, and health and well-being in their communities.
Some of the funding will be used by Columbus Area United Way to help provide food assistance to a large gap in our community, seniors. According to 2023 data from feedingamerica.org, over 20,000 individuals over the age of 60 in Nebraska were food insecure with a 4.2% food insecurity rate. To help assist with this gap, Columbus Area United Way currently provides food to support 300 households with seniors monthly.
Hope Freshour, Executive Director, Columbus Area United Way said, “Thanks to this funding, we can make a meaningful impact in the lives of seniors in our community who face food insecurity. By providing access to nutritious food, we are not only meeting an immediate need but also supporting the health and well-being of our senior population.”
Funding will also go to Colfax County Food Pantry in Schuyler. The food pantry in Schuyler provides food for more than 300 households each month for people in Nebraska. It will also support A Place at the Table, a local non-profit that provides backpacks of food for students in Platte County.
ADM employees assisted with the September senior food distribution on September 30th by packing bags of food and distributing them to local organizations.
“The ADM team in Columbus and ADM Cares are immensely proud to support the Columbus Area United Way,” said Todd Good, ADM Columbus Corn Plant Manager. “For us as a company, it’s important to create value and strengthen communities where we live, work, and have a strong footprint, and with this contribution, we are filling an immediate need to help people become food secure. We are thrilled to deliver on our commitment to making a meaningful difference in our community which is something we strive to do every day.”
