Non-contact volunteer opportunities

Columbus Community Hospital

The need for cloth masks for visitors to CCH will continue as the community fights the spread of COVID-19.  If you would like to donate homemade cloth masks, contact Dorothy Bybee at (402) 562-4745 or email dabybee@columbushosp.org.

Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber is looking for a volunteer to reach out to non-Chamber members to fill out a survey from the State of Nebraska.  The survey is to gather information on how COVID-19 has impacted their business or organization.  The volunteer will make calls from the Chamber conference room away from other staff and the public.  They will also be provided a script for the phone calls.  This volunteer will need to be outgoing and enjoy talking to business owners and managers.  If you would like to volunteer, contact Sandie at the Chamber office 402-564-2769.

Little Free Libraries need spring sprucing up!

The United Way maintains three Little Free Libraries in Columbus.  In the spring, we "spruce them up" with some new paint and flowers are planted around two of them.  We will supply paint and flowers. When the weather warms up, this is a fun outdoor project!  If you would like to help "spruce up" the little libraries, give us a call at 402-564-5661 or email dkollath@columbusunitedway.com.

TeamMates Mentoring

What can you do to help TeamMates Mentoring during this pandemic?  TeamMates is a one-to-one school-based mentoring program.   Although TeamMates cannot currently meet in the current situation, we can recruit mentors for when school is back in session.  There are so many kids in need of an additional caring adult in their lives.  Consider being a mentor and/or nominate people who would be great mentors.  For more information, you can call the Columbus office at 402-564-8326 or email teamne@megavision.com.  The mentor application and more information is available online at www.teammates.org.  People can nominate others they feel would be a good mentor on the website under "Mentoring".  This is such a great way to help youth in our community!

TeamMates is a one-to-one school-based mentoring program.  Volunteers spend one lunch or class period each week with a child at their school.  They can play games, shoot hoops, go for a walk, or jus sit and chat.  We are alwasy in need of more volunteer mentors.  You don't have to be an expert in anything you simply have to BE THERE!
